(28p, b/w, epigraphs, lyrics, essays, tunings, chords, annotations)
In summer 2014, I toured the midwest with a recent ex of mine (because apparently that was a good idea) performing cover sets every night. I performed as tallgirl, a moniker I only officially stopped using in early 2015. The songs that would later become contingency had already been written in the preceding year, but were taking their time to get through me; I found it exciting to tell stories about songs and play songs about stories. Instead of performing some sort of unique expression of myself (something I still don't believe in), I selected 13 covers that I could best infect, so deeply personal to me that they became utterly mine in the performance. Eventually, when I needed merch for the last tallgirl tour in fall 2014, I wrote thirteen micro-essays on the songs, and scattered them with annotations, epigraphs, and other little goodies. I haven't sold many of them and would like them to be out of my hands. I don't know if they are good, but they are the best artifacts of my formative creative period which preceded contingency and my current work. I'm asking $2. They're nice!
